Driver Guide
Before driving, the qualified driver shall obey the following facts;
(a) Duty: Drive Safely all the times.
(b) Responsibility: Check engine system, steering system, light system, brake system, body and tyres of vehicle everyday.
(c) Conduct: Avoide the use of drug and shall try to be honest and get good communication with the public.
(d) Descipline: Obey the facts of the existing Motor Vehicle Laws and Rules.
(e) Mottos: The following mottos which are published from the Traffic Regulations Central Committee for producing a qualified driver shall obey ;
(1) Drive the right way with patience.
(2) 'Road Safety is No Accident.'
(3) Drive legally is safe and happy.
(4) 'Obey the traffic rules for safety.'
(5) 'Drive Safely.'
(6) Careless driving costs many lives.
(7) Remember; your parents, wife and children are waiting for you to come back home safely.
1. White longitudinal markings in the center of the road။ These are as follow;
(a) Central broken line
(1) In a two way road the broken line may be crossed over to make a turn. A ( "Hair Pin" turn) "U" turn may also be made.
In one way road the traffic lane may be changed by crossing over the broken lines;
(2) A vehicle ahead may be overtaken by crossing the broken line, if it is safe;
(3) The broken lines may not be straddled while driving;
(4) No walking, standing or cycling shall be done on broken line.
(b) Centre line
(1) No turning by crossing, no ( "Hair Pin" turn) "U" turn and no change of traffic lane shall be done across the line.
(2) No over taking the vehicle ahead by crossing this line shall be done.
(3) No driving straddling on this line shall be done.
(4) No walking, standing or cycling shall be done on this line.
(c) Central double lines
(1) The parallel lines shall be used at the places liable to be in danger such as the road bends, twisting roads, wide bridges and at
the hill tops hidden from view.
(2) Parallel lines shall not be crossed over at all. Hair Pin turns, and straddle driving are prohibited.
(3) No over taking at all of the vehicle ahead shall be done at the parallel lines.
(4) No standing all parking shall be done at the parallel lines.
(5) No walking, standing or cycling shall be done on the parallel lines.
(d) The central parallel lines drawn in a continuous line and in broken lines
(1) A vehicle moving from the side of the traffic lane where is a broken line may cross the central parallel line to turn if it is safe from the
incoming traffic. However there shall be no ( "Hair Pin" turn) "U" turn.
(2) A vehicle moving from the side of the traffic lane where there is a broken line shall not overtake the vehicle it is following by crossing the
central parallel lines; nor are the lines to be straddled.
(3) A vehicle moving from the side of the traffic lane where there is a continuous line shall not across over that line at all.
(4) No walking, standing or cycling shall be done on the two parallel lines.
(e) Markings in longitudinal white line demarcating the traffic Lanes
(1) Traffic lanes are demarcated by continuous lines and broken lines so that vehicles may move one after another conveniently and
safely along the route.
(2) Traffic lanes shall be demarcated by a continuous lines from at least 30 meters (100 feet) before reaching a stop line which is drawn in
transverse at the intersection.
(3) Where the traffic lanes are demarcated by broken lines, vehicles may change from one traffic lane to another. When traffic lanes are
being changed it shall be done by changing one lane after another appropriately. It shall not impede the vehicle following. The traffic
lanes shall not be changed at all on the continuous lines before reaching the intersection.
(4) Vehicles moving ahead may be overtaken at the broken lines, but not at the lines which are continuous.
(5) Traffic lanes demarcated by yellow lines are for buses only.
(6) Driving shall normally be made on the right side of the traffic lane. If a left turning is intended, it shall be made only after crossing into
the left traffic lane at the broken lines.
(7) Vehicles moving ahead may be overtaken only at the broken lines.
(8) (''Hair Pin" turns) 'U' turns may be made at places where there are centre is broken lanes.
A vehicle shall stop only behind white marking for tranverse stop lines.
(f) Yellow line markings for pedestrians
(G) Conditions to be observed by drivers of vehicles at the yellow pedestrian crossing
(1) Before reaching the zebra pedestrian crossing or yellow broken lines a cautious approach shall be made by slowing down the speed from
a distance of at least 50 meters (165 feet). Where there are pedestrians crossing the road, the vehicle shall stop at a distance of at least 5
meters (16 feet 6 inches) from the zebra crossing or the yellow broken line and shall continue only after the pedestrians have cleared.
(2) Vehicles shall not stop at all on the zebra pedestrian crossings or yellow broken lines for any reasons. If a vehicle is broken down and
stop on such lines, it shall be moved immediately to the side of the road to be clear of such lines.
(3) A vehicle stopping at the zebra pedestrian crossings or at the yellow broken lines shall not be overtaken. Nor shall a moving vehicle
ahead be overtaken.
(4) If there is a traffic police or an authorized person regulating the traffic at the zebra pedestrian crossing or the yellow broken line, his
direction shall be followed.
(5) At the intersection a vehicle shall only stop behind the stop line. A vehicle shall not stop on the yellow pedestrian crossing.
(6) If a turn to be made at the intersection, special care shall be taken of persons crossing the place where the turn is to be made.
(H) Yellow island makings on the road
(1) Island markings on the road not to be crossed over by the vehicles shall be drawn and demarcated by yellow lines.
(2) Vehicles shall not stop on or cross over the islands.
(3) A person crossing a road with an island may stop for a while on the island and continue crossing only when the traffic is clear. No
walking, running or cycling within the island shall be done.
(1) Vehicles shall not halt or park along the road where there are the white/red road side kerbs. Such making are to be used in places such as roundabouts, branch islands, dangerous road bends and intersections.
(2) Although vehicles may halt temporarily along the road where there are yellow/ black road side kerbs, it may not park at all. Such marking are to be used at places where blockage of road is possible such as the market, school, hospital and offices where coming and going of people are frequent.
(J) White /Red zebra road side posts
(1) White/red zebra road side posts shall be erected at the places such as road sides where there are steep banks and at road curves and bends that may cause danger.
(2) Along the road sides where there are such posts, no vehicle shall halt or park and overtake one another. Driving shall be made with caution by slowing down the speed when such posts are seen.
